The situation |
Browns Road, Rosebud provides access to the waste disposal site and the Monash Golf Club, the site of the 2003 Australian Open. The road carried over 29,000 m3 of fill over a 4 week period. The pavement had developed severe cracking and loss of material over a 400 m length as illustrated by the photographs below. The road was last reconstructed 5 years ago.
Environmental conditions |
The pavement is located on a subgrade of black silty clay with a high moisture content approx 500 mm above a swamp. The swamp cannot be drained for environmental reasons.
Renewal options considered |
1. Raise road above swamp water table, est. cost is in excess of $1M. 2. Foam stabilise pavement to depth of 120 – 150 mm, est. cost $160,000 ($21/m2), est. life 5 years |
Selected renewal treatment |
Foam stabilisation of pavement. Work completed and road reopened in time for 2003 Australian Gold Open. |
